Oasis youth support network - The Salvation Army Oasis Schools

Education

Oasis Schools

The Oasis Education Centres, located in Surry Hills and Chatswood, offer accredited education from basic literacy and numeracy up to Year 12 schooling. The Centres are run through the Youth Connections Program - an Australian Government initiative aiming to re-engage young people in education who are currently disconnected from conventional education institutions.

Formed with a notepad and pencil (literally), the Surry Hills Education Centre now has two full-time accredited teachers and more than fifty young people enrolled each year. Focusing on providing alternative education to young people aged 16 to 24 years, the school tailors each learning plan to the young person’s individual needs and interests. From basic literacy and numeracy, up to Year 12, the school works to steadily re-engage young students to learn at their own pace, and celebrates the incredible achievements each year with a graduation ceremony.

The Chatswood Education Centre provides young people aged 12 to 15 years with a term by term structured program, focussed on re-engaging the young students in mainstream education, with the goal to return them to their original school equipped to both achieve and attend. The team of teachers and educators work closely with the young people to build self-confidence through creative arts, as well as sharing with the young students the excitement of learning.

In addition to the school-term based education program, both Centres offer extracurricular and school-holiday activity programs for young people to become involved in and broaden their range of skills and knowledge.
