Girls arrested for Cyber bullying on Facebook

It saddens me to hear that cyber bullying is becoming a massive problem for our youth.
On September 10 2013 Rebecca a 12 year old girl from Florida USA committed suicide over girls who were bullying her at school and cyber bullying her on Facebook.

1 of the girls bragged about her part in the girls suicide saying:
Yes, I bullied Rebecca and she killed herself but I don't give a ...' and you can add the last word yourself
This video is an eye opener for all parents, teachers and students

Rebecca Ann Sedwick ... Two girls, ages 12 and 14, have been charged with felony aggravated stalking of Sedwick for what a Florida sheriff described as "maliciously harassing"her. She jumped from a tower to her death. The girls repeatedly intimidated Rebecca and called her names, the sheriff said, and at one point, the younger girl beat up Rebecca at school.

Both girls aged 12 & 14 were charged as juveniles with third-degree felony aggravated stalking. If convicted, it's not clear how much time, if any at all, the girls would spend in juvenile detention because they did not have any previous criminal history, the sheriff said.

Sorry, but that's just not good enough as far as I'm concerned.

Rebecca's mother tried every thing  she could as a prevention for her daughter to get her help when she first realized that her daughter was suffering bullying. Unfortunately not matter what Rebecca's mother did to help was not enough to stop her daughter being bullied online and taking her own life.

Kids can be rather cruel and these bullies usually grow up to be bullies as an adult. We all know at least one bully. So here is my story to share.

My son has been victim of bullying for years. It got so bad that a child from his school with another boy pushed my son onto the road in front of a car. Lucky that the car slammed on the breaks. My son was injured from the fall but thank god he didn't get killed. I will not go into full details of the trauma my son still goes through and If I was to tell my story and the experiences I have dealt with over bullying issues at school and cyber bullying online,  I could seriously write a book about it all. So to cut a long story short I got the police and the education department involved and removed my son from the Sydney school permanently.

So what are we going to do about all of this bullying online?
Here are a few tips for Parents and Teachers from an experienced caring mother of a child who suffers bullying. Aka "Me".

TIPS FOR CYBER BULLYING ONLINE
 UTOPIA MAGAZINE

At the age of 5 years old our kids are learning about computers in schools. By the time your child starts school you should be teaching them rules about using the internet & social sites.

  1. They should already know the golden rule.
  2. When your kids are very young, make sure you teach them to only add real family members and real friends on social networks.
  3. Teach them stranger danger and to come directly to you if they don't feel safe or happy online.
  4. Make sure your kids have you added as a friend on Facebook. You can see what is going on at all times. If you find that your kids want more privacy as they get older which most will want, tell them you respect their privacy and will not interfere unless you see something nasty about them or they ask for your assistance.
  5. It's a great idea to build a trusting relationship with your kids online at an early age.
  6. If your child is being bullied online take a screen shot or copy and paste the harassing comment and save it with the date and time etc as a back up.
  7. Then on Face book, go to the right of the harassing post, click on the tiny drop arrow and report the comment to Facebook security and block the person. Since you have a record of the post, you can then go directly to the school principle or even straight to the police.
Cyber bullying is a crime. Report it always.
